Default Rear speaker(s) on my newly bought XK8 Conv

I have today managed to secure a stunning 98 XK8 Convertible. I love it.
Everything has been done inc timing chains and it's running just perfect

Anyway - the rear speaker on the passenger side seems to be knackered, it works but its farting away with the bass - i have everything set to 0 - so it's not the settings - do you access them by just pulling the cover off or what - how do you get at it? cheers.

It's dead easy to replace. I did my rears last year.

There's a guide somewhere on here, I'll see if I can find it. Whereabouts in London are you? I'm in hackney and could show you how to do it in about 10 mins. (I've had a lot of practice removing most of the interior, what with roof hoses and speakers etc)

Make sure you buy good quality 2 ohm woofers, not speakers. I bought 4 ohm cheap woofers and they sound terrible. Cant turn the bass up above zero without all kinds of flutter. Now I have to do it again.

Maybe not good enough for the ardent audiophiles, but three months on, I'm still very happy with my fairly low cost solution :

I remember a time when I installed some nice aftermarket woofers that burped and rattled every time a good bass note came. It was a learning for me - when a woofer isn't properly secured (tight screws), the speaker basket itself moves in opposition to the speaker cone (even slightly), causing this kind of distortion. From what you said (happens at low volume), I don't think this applies, but hey you never know so take this as an FYI for the future reference just in case you didn't know this already. One more thing while we are discussing woofer installations - way too many of us, myself included, have done this once or twice: It is incredibly easy to spear your speaker. Always protect the speaker driver from your screwdriver with your free hand when screwing them in. I cup my hand around the end of the screwdriver. That woofer's magnet plus bad luck makes it way easier than you think for the screwdriver to slide off into and right through your new speaker. Trust me you can't react fast enough once it starts to slip. By the time your realize what just happened, the screwdriver is burried in your brand new speaker's surround. John

Hi Guys - now i am just assuming the rear speakers are knackered, it's not that they might not be screwed down correctly?
Prob are knackered - can someone please point me in the direction of replacement ones?

Kicker CVT65 subwoofers fit in the factory location with minor plastic removal on the speaker and pretty decent, even when powered by the factory amp.

Keith - the Kickers are very difficult to get here in the UK and I could only find US suppliers, which would have meant big freight charges plus import duty etc. The JBLs are easy to get here, and although I don't think they are as good, I'm still happy with mine after 6 months or so ........... I'm a "quite like it loud but not so my ears bleed" sort of guy so keep the volume at a reasonable level (rarely take it up to "11" !!)

I used some shallow depth front throw subs I got off of Amazon for about $100/pair. Worked fine in a comvertible. I had the Harmon Kardon system.
