I have seen the various pics of the rear subframe removals/rebuilds and have a question on the rear spindles. I see lower control arms to locate the bottom of the spindle but no upper control arm; just the half shaft. Is the half shaft the only thing that locates the upper part of the spindle?

I have had my rear tires off a couple of times but did not pay too much attention to the layout. Now that I see the pictures of everything disassembled I am curious. That would seem to be quite a load on the u-joints

 

The half shaft IS the upper control arm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plus the shock tower is bolted to the bottom and rear of the hob carrier, stopping the roll. Kind of a "A" arm set up, just different.
