Default rear view mirror question.

I notice the top of my mirror is clear, as the fluid has dropped down about an inch. I see instructions on replacing the mirror on gus's info. Thanks Gus! My question is how much time do I have to confront this problem, before it starts to leak? I realize its just an estimate but is it a priority? tlmewise. Does this happen to a lot of our mirrors or is it a rare occurence? Thanks Again!

This evidently happens to a LOT of these mirrors, which were also used in several other high-end cars. I had mine redone a few weeks ago by Sybesma...highly recommended. When I talked to their customer service people, they said they do about 2,500 mirror repairs a year, most from BMWs.

Unless you have a very good reason to wait, you should go ahead and get the mirror repaired NOW. You really can't estimate when the toxic stuff is going to eat through a layer of plastic and start dripping into your car. Once that happens, you will be very, very unhappy.

The Sybesma turnaround is very quick, high quality and they've got a great price. Get it done.

I agree with The Coupe on this one. It may last quite a while, or you may come out someday and have a real mess on your hands and damaged center console with it. It isn't too difficult to swap out and Sybesma makes it so quick and easy. You get the right mirror at a good price.

If you really must wait and are concerned, you could wrap some bags around it when you aren't driving it to catch the liquid and hopefully mitigate any mess or damage.

I thought I had time on mine and then out of nowhere the acid rain fell all over the radio pod an now I have an etched center console. Mine puked out from the center. After I got the new mirror from Sym. I gutted the old one to really check it out. Man what a mess the goo seeped and sealed all at the same time. Kinda re welded the holes it leaked out of. Nasty stuff. Don't mess with it. If you can afford to do it, do it now.
