Default Rear windows on 1998 convertible how to adjust?

Hi.
almost given up. I cannot get my rear windows to meet the door windows when the hood is raised. Always a tapered gap.
Have a 1998 convertible xk8.
Now I have taken the complete mechanism including the glass out of the bodywork to see what's wrong but cant see anything of issue.
the unit works well on the floor and in the car but when fitted in the car and mounted on the 3 fixing bolts I cannot get it to close fully to the rear of the door window, both sides no matter how I adjust the unit.. The only thing I can seem to think of is to remove the glass from the carrier and refix it at a different angle. Even tried to adjust the door glass rearwards. .
has anyone got any suggestions .
when the glass is raised I can grip the glass and move it into position.
Sorry such a long post.
Steve

Steve,

As you have already posted an Intro in November 2020 (https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...1998-a-240075/), I've moved your question from New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum to XK8/XKR forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Steve, I've seen weird rear window (rw) behavior with low battery. Heres some ideas:
1) top off battery
2) disco neg battery cable hold on positive cable for 30 seconds
3) reset front windows (no not logical but wtf, stranger things have happened)
4) start car lower roof & windows with button.
5) car idling raise roof with key in drivers door.

Same results? Probably but going through those steps will eliminate nagging possibilities. If yes same results, I'd focus on how you can move rear window by hand. Most unusual.

Default Three adjustment bolts on the window regulator

Steve,

From what you say, the rear window, in the car, can be moved by hand. So it points to the 3 adjustment fixing bolts on the regulator. These are probably loose and you may want to check on the threads as these could be stripped out.

The 3 bolts are in a triangular arrangement around the perimeter of the regulator. See pics below. The bolt at the bottom was my problem when I had the same loose window. You can see the marks where things had moved. I put some locktight on the threads when I bolted it back in.
