Default Rearview mirror rattles - '01XK8

My rearview mirror rattles like nobody's business, and the entire unit appears to be loose, yet hasn't fallen from the windshield (yet). I was able to remove the two plastic covers to reveal more of the base, but cannot figure out just how to tighten, or remove to replace the entire unit. There's obviously a lot of wiring that runs up into the mirror. Does anyone have (or has had) this issue, and know how to rectify? It is the entire unit at the base (window) that is loose, not just the pivot ball on the mirror.

The following link addresses the electro chromatic issue more than rattles but covers the removal and install very well.

How did your mirror removal go?
I am getting ready to remove the discolored mirror in my 2000 XK8 convertible.
