I ordered a replacement mirror on eBay. The seller was most knowledgeable about various options used by Jag over the years. Our original had both auto-dimming and auto-headlight (i.e., turn on at dusk) features. We only needed the auto-dimming version, so saved some bucks. New one fits like a glove.

I went through 3 Donnelly mirrors in 2 years, they were crap and bankrupted the company. Bought out by Magna and re-designed to have gel rather than the faulty liquid filling. Have had the Magna Donnelly mirror 3 years now, no issues. Make sure you do not waste money on a Donnelly mirror.

This one has the updated ball/socket on the backside (where our original mirror failed), and is labeled Magna. Most likely the improved gel-filled version you refer to.
