Default remote

My 98 XK8 only came with 1 key so bought a remote on Ebay (LJA2610AA). Got it programmed, but when I lock doors/set the alarm, the passenger door handle cycles a few times and the alarm goes off. Anybody figure out a cure for this? I'm about to give up and return the remote.

Thanks

That is not a problem with your remote. It sounds like it is working fine.

You likely have a bad microswitch in the door latch mechanism, probably on the driver's side.

ok. I didn't think it was in the passenger side door because I recently replaced that whole door, and it cycled before without a remote.

I think I viewed the latch change-out on a 'Sam video'.

Are the micro-switches available separately, or must buy the whole latch assembly?

Thanks

They are available separately.

Do check fuse #15 on both the passenger and driver door fuseboxes before you buy any parts. A blown fuse also has the potential to cause this problem.

I checked both those fuses and they were ok.

If the #C2N 1908 microswitch is bad, would that give me a "door ajar" message" also? I 'm not getting any door ajar message, and the windows work as they are supposed to (a new battery solved window issues).

I actually think it is one of the other two door latch assy microswitches that causes the cycling issue.

yesterday, I took the door latch off, cleaned & lubed it, and reassembled... Now I'm getting a "door ajar" message that I didn't have before. Is there a way to test the micro-switches? One of them looks easy to replace, not sure about the others.

Switches can be tested with a multimeter on resistance setting.
