remote fob

Unhappy remote fob

remote fob only works when it feels like it.tested batt 3volts.replaced brand new one just in case.then i notice when taking key out of ignition the little flap only closed now and then..put a bit of 3in1 on key and in the lock/ig barrel..seems ok now ..is this comon and how to perminantly cure it?

Hi.

As you probably know the car will not lock if the flap in the ignition barrel does not slide into place when you remove the key. This is a common problem over age. Try to clean it carefully, and then lubricate sparsely with a non sticking oil. WD40 tends to get sticky over time. Be careful not to get anything stuck in the key hole or flap mechanism.

Graphite powder sold exclusively to lubricate locks may be your best bet. Use it very sparingly - a little goes a long way....

Have the same problem, will try with graphite powder. Thanx for the tip.
