Default Removing Main Silencer?

Considering the costs of a new SS system I contacted a local shop who build bespoke systems for Racing bikes, for £100 he can replace the main silencer with an X pipe and retain the rear silencers and resonators. Has any one done this before? If so what does it sound like? Any links to Youtube? I only want to do it for the sound as I am a little board of the mundane track when driving to work! I'd imagine it would sound a little like the Macleod X-Pipe but not quite so load.

Here is what my 2000 XK8's exhaust looks like. It isn't loud, just a mellow growl when you get on it. The resonators and mufflers remain and are stock.

Greenjewel, your pics are great. You've got me very interested but I have to ask if the two sides are indeed, totally independant? No crossover or joining 'H' pipe? I know next to nothing about exhausts but I was always told that it's mandatory (can't remember why) that the two pipes join in some way, and 'X' or an 'H', maybe to prevent drone? The fact that you don't seem to have it would tend to prove that that's not the case. I guess that what I'm asking is confirmation that your system has not given you any grief. It looks elegant it's so simple.

Thanks

You don't NEED to join the two banks together (back in the 60's / 70s' V8s were independent) but it was discovered that by linking them in some way just behind the engine gave improved power / torque. When a slug of exhaust gas passes the link / x-pipe the partial vacuum behind it is transfered via the link pipe to the other bank of cylinders which helps scavange the next slug of exhaust gas leaving the exhaust port.

No crossover H or X or Y pipe. Header to Cat to resonator to muffler.

My Vette is Headers into a Y pipe single exit into a high flow Cat single exit into a rear Y pipe and sent to two Flowmaster mufflers and is 3 times as loud as the Jag with a low volume drone at 1600 rpm. No drone with the Jag.

I have not heard what it sounds like if the resonators were removed and everything went straight to the mufflers. I think it would be much the same sound level / volume as the Vette. (depending on the mufflers uses).
