Default Replace Outer Glass on Headlight Lens?

Last week, the outer glass on my driver headlight lens unit fell out. Is it possible to replace the glass alone or do I need to replace the headlight lens itself. If it is possible to replace, how is the glass held on the lens assembly.

I believe the seal is some kind of double-sided tape in the form of a shaped gasket.

If the reflective coating is still intact, you can effect a good repair with clear silicone sealant. Clean the mating surfaces carefully with isopropyl alcohol or similar, then apply a thin bead of sealer around the join area.

Disclosure: I haven't done this with the XK (although others have):

.. although I repaired both headlights on my son's MK2 Golf this way some 5 years back, and they're still good today.

Thanks...very helpful. The lens was loose and I placed it back in the frame using the original double sided tape. Unfortunately, the outer lens fell out and is gone, but I'll get a new / used one and try the silicon sealant trick.

Default If you don’t have the glass, the front half lense unit is available

You didn’t say whether you still have the glass.

If not, I would suggest you replace the front half of the unit rather then trying to get the glass desperately and gluing it on.

DCR, in the UK, stock it. Link below.

Be patient with DCR. Communication is slow.

In case you’re not aware of how to DIY the headlights, see the To The Garage Youtube videos by John. Link below
