I need an engine to replace my currently unrepairable one in my 1999 XK8 .

I've found some listed on ebay but they are shown as being compatible with model years from 1998 - 2003. I had previously been told by "my mechanic", possibly erroneously, that 2000s and 2001s wouldn't be suitable.

Can anyone in this forum fill me in on the correct information, please?

Are there specific details other than model year, or is this sufficient for verifying compatibility?

Do you know of other resources than ebay, or have experience with ebay motors?

FWIW, the engine requiring replacement was acquired in 2017 through a local dealer as a newly built unit directly from the factory in the UK .

Any suggestions/answers would be very much appreciated.

I would say you should go the LS-swap route, but that's 'cuz I am kinda biased

 

ANY AJ27 engine from the XK100 or X308 will work properly in your car without modification.

In fact an AJ28 will work with modification. I used a block from an S-Type 4.0 and heads and oil pan from a 4.0 sedan (2001MY) and fitted it to a 2000MY XJ8L.
