Default 4.2L Plastic Thermo Housing....Again!

Just complaining here.
Jan 2022: I replaced the leaking plastic thermostat tower for the 2nd time. It had been leaking for several months from one of the end plugs; had tried RTV around the plug, with no success, so finally replaced it. Thought....okay, I should be good for a couple of years.
NOPE!
Found a small amount of coolant on garage floor yesterday after wife took the XK8 out. She brought it back, found both end plugs leaking! Luckly, I had purchased a replacement after I had replaced the tower in Jan.
And now of course the AJ89486 is not available at this time. Hopefully this one will last long enough until the AJ89486 is available once again.

This thing is one crappy design!!!

Agreed. I hate plastic parts in cooling systems -- they are all destined for failure....

Isn't there a metal upgrade version of that thermostat tower available? I'm pretty sure I've seen it somewhere.

That is why you go for the R. Supercharged cars all had metal thermostat housings.

Looks like I am going to have to retract this posting......apparently it was not the thermostat tower leaking (again)....it is the coolant pump.
Found another small amount of coolant on garage floor again.....and went looking. Found wet coolant where I had cleaned it off before I changed the tower. Further looking and looks to be the pump. Although nothing out the weep hole, just around the shaft.
Guess the pump pulley was throwing coolant onto the bottom of the tower as shown in the picture above....which I though was the tower leaking.
Good think I did not toss out the tower I took off.
Now I just need to find a coolant pump and change it out.
Have I mentioned how much I dislike draining the radiator!!!

draining the radiator is easy going at the lower right. maybe take off the bracket from the crossmember for easy access.
Keep that old thermostat housing! It was so hard to get in europe. I had to order one of three remaining from the states!! You cant buy them anymore now.

Changing the Water Pump is a easy job and you can get that pump in the aftermarket.
