Reset Air Bag Warning Light

Reset Air Bag Warning Light
Hello my learned friends:
I had to replace the driver seat on my 2001 XKR. Now I have a warning (4 blinks, 2 blinks) that the replacement seat (side) air bag is not working.
Besides the dealer, is there any way to (reasonably) reset the computer to recognize thew replacement seat (airbag)?
Thank you in advance of any replies.
Happy Memorial Day and God bless our troops!
Very respectfully, Bob G in Florida

As I stated previously, I have the i930 that was available through amazon.com in February 2016. I paid about $125 for it. From your post, it appears that the price has dropped to about $114 now....
My i930 paid for itself the first year I owned it as I diagnosed and repaired several issues on both my wife's 2006 XK8 and my former 2005 S-Type (which I recently sold)....

There are a few of us that went the Icarsoft route. You need to be sure it has Jaguar/Land Rover capability and One set of software works with the older jags and one with the new jags but no version with both that I know of.
Clearing the air bag code without fixing the problem will just make the light reappear next start up. The air bag to my knowledge doesn't require programming.
I would recommend removing the seat control module and make sure that all of the wires are properly plugged in. I had an air bag code for the drivers seat belt buckle. It turned out that having positioned the seat fully to the rear and then returning to normal had snagged a wire from the buckle and pulled it out of the connector. Once plugged back in the fault cleared itself, which is normal for the SRS.

Hello avern1.
Earlier I had to replace the driver's seat.
In my "Thread Starter" post, I wrote "I had to replace the driver seat on my 2001 XKR. Now I have a warning (4 blinks, 2 blinks) that the replacement seat (side) air bag is not working. "
Thanks for sharing your knowledge about the scanner. I bought the Jaguar/Land Rover variant. The details says;
• Works on all 2001 and later OBDII compliant PETROL European vehicles
• Works on all 2004 and later OBDII compliant DIESEL European vehicles
• Works on all 1996 and later OBDII compliant US and Asian vehicles (mine is US 2001 XKR)
I think I'll be OK. Thanks again to Jon89 for the great information.
Very respectfully, Bob G in FL

Hello Jon89.
I purchased the iCarSoft 930. Amazing tool. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge about it.
I tried unsuccessfully to reset the air bag code on the replaced seat. It went from 4-2 (4 blinks, 2 blinks) to 2 blinks only.
I do not understand the system as well as I should.
Any suggestions?

What SRS code and description did your i930 indicate before you attempted to clear it? You likely have an SRS fault, and the code/description should help you to address it. Use your i930's SRS module reader function to read the current code and description, then report back here. Sometimes it is as simple as detaching, cleaning, and reattaching the seat belt buckle electrical connectors....

Thank you Jon89. It is raining very hard here right now, maybe 2 inches per hour. When it clears, likely tomorrow morning, I will do exactly what you suggested, and report back. It is amazing how much great information I have received (and sometimes offered)V on this forum. Amazing.
I really like mu i930. I have 4 Jaguars and it is probably the most useful tool in my garage.

Hello Jon89.
Summary: Everything worked exactly as you described.
Four small pictures attached. These show chronology from fault B2295 to clear.
Thank you again for your outstanding help and patience.
Very respectfully, Bob G in FL
Initial screen to select Restraints control module
Read DTC shows B2295
Option to clear DTC
Confirmation

Hello to my many learned Jaguar enthusiasts who have been following this post.
Nothing critical, just want to share information and ask one question.
CAR: 2001 Jaguar XKR convertible (supercharged).
Two years ago, while I had my driver's seat out of the car to replace a broken seat motor, I stupidly applied power to the wrong connector, and blew my driver's side air bag. Yes, I was stupid, very stupid.
So for $30 I bought a replacement air bag, and for $160 I had the seat side leather replaced.
But it never worked.
Another Jaguar Forums person suggested I buy the iCarSoft i930 Scanner. Since I owned 4 Jaguars at that time, it paid for itself the first weekend.
I read the resistance from the working passenger's side airbag. It measured 5.0 ohms.
I read the resistance from the failed driver's side airbag. It measured open circuit.
So I purchased a 3 watt, 5 ohm resistor. Installed same into the harness connector, across the orange and blue wires.
Now the iCarSoft i930 Scanner reads the correct resistance for both sides, which is 5 ohms.
Start the car. Get the same failure (series of repeating 2 blinks of the air bag light).
Try using the iCarSoft i930 Scanner to reset the failure code. Says it succeeded. But when I start the car, get same failure (series of repeating 2 blinks of the air bag light).
OK. Here is where you experienced Jaguar Forums enthusiasts come in.
How do I reset the computer to recognize the correct resistance for the driver's side air bag?
Or is this another process where you just have to drive the car several cycles (like 10 or more) until it resets itself?
Any help is always appreciated.

Hi Bob,
The underlying error is still there.
You may have damaged the wiring or connector at the time the airbag went off? Very lucky you weren't in the firing line when that happened
I think the system continuously monitors state so the error will re-present itself immediately. Best for someone with more knowledge to chime in here.
Be careful. Don't want you to lose another life!
