Restricted Performance/Check Engine Light

Restricted Performance/Check Engine Light
Have replaced a couple of leaking air hoses, but so far does not fix issue of "intermittent restricted performance/constant check engine light" and I do not sense a change in performance while driving.
After each repair visit, will drive for 30 minutes, turn off, rest for 5 mins, restart, drive again, turn off, restart, then get the restricted performance/check engine light.
Mechanic getting "running lean" code, but about a year ago, it pulled code P0456, which is evap issue, I believe.
Should next move be to replace fuel filler cap?
I trust mechanic, and there is no one else available (dealership declines to help because of age of vehicle -- 2005 xkr convertible, 45k miles).
Just wandering in the desert !!
