Default Restricted Performance with no codes

On the verg of selling the red 1999 xk8 coupe, and this happens.
Started fine, drove around all day, 30 miles or more, stopped for dinner. Started car and idle would not go above 200 RPM gave it gas and died. Several attempts at this and finally called the hook. Dealer has it and diagnosed it to be fuel pump. Here goes the profit, install new fuel pump, filters and assorted stuff. They test drive and drives fine no issue until they get above 3000 rpm. RP. They do several more drives and the same result only after above 3000 rpm. RP

Codes are different each time but do not point to anything specific. ( I will have codes tonight when I pick it up)

Granted in the last five years the car has had a whopping 8000 miles put on it.

They are stumped. Their suggestion is to fill with fresh fuel, add BG44 and go thru a complete tank but keep it under the 3000 rpm threshold. On the next tank of fresh Let her rip and see if it is just old fuel.

Is this plausible? or scapegoat?

I have read that a low battery in XJ's will cause crazey issues like RP, is this also true on the XK?

I don't buy the old fuel thing. I'd like to see all the diff codes. Have the battery load tested, good be weak, yes the battery in an XK can cause issues.
Please get us the codes when you can.

The battery is always the primary suspect in situations that throw inconsistent, random codes and warnings all over the map. How old is yours?

Yes test the battery and post the codes not what they tell you they mean. Also if they are different each time could you sort in the way they came up?

battery is an interstate new in 02-2013. But it has been asleep all winter put a full charge on it earlier but not driven much. I'm sure the extra cranking trying to start and restart multipule times did drain it down.

I did not get off work in time to pick it up hopefully in the morning.

We will see what tomorrow brings. Hopefully they can do a load test, for free
in the morning.

I remember they said all the rail pressures and injectors were within spec!

They asked if i ever had issues with this before because of all the modifications done on the car. I replied nothing out of Jaguar normal.

Mods are; cold air intake; mina underaxel exhaust; nameless 200 cell cats.

Recent maintenance were new knock sensors. When I installed the nameless cats I installed new o2 sensors.

You can have it tested FREE at AutoZone, Advance Auto and Sears.

Pick-up car the only code that kept coming up was P0300 Random Misfire. But that is where it stopped. No other codes came up to direct the tech towards anything.

I inquired about the battery and the response was that while driving they should have gotten a low voltage signal or something electrical they would point them further. But nothing. I will take to Autozone and have a load test done tomorrow.

This car is sensitive to poor voltage conditions. Yes in the ideal world it should give you an indication but is does not every time. Get the battery load tested!

Drive the car and have it tested in the car.

I cleared all codes drove to Autozone
, battery tested good alternator tested good. The counterman also asked how old the gas was and asked if i used any fuel stabilizer. I told him it was a few months old and it did have stabilizer in it. He offered that I should put in a fuel system cleaner and fresh gas.
I put in a can of bg44 and 8 gallons or so of fresh fuel.

we will see what happens!

It is not the gas. The intake bellow/tube what ever ya want to call it from filter box to the TB is it in one piece or are the tops of the accordion like portion rubbed off, holes in them?

Why can't it be easy this time?

the snorkel tube is 1 year old. just rechecked no cracks. i know it usually cracks on the underside above the exhaust manifold.

He has only one code for one side if that hose were the problem it would give a code for both sides.
