Default Roof slashed to pieces by vandels, advice please

Hi all,

I'm away for work but was informed this morning by a neighbour that our secure car park was broken into and thw two convertibles had their roofs slashed.

So my lovey 2003 XKR is now going to need a new roof. I'll post pictures up when I'm back after the weekend.

The ******* managed to rip the roof open like a tin can, all along drivers side, along back and then along passenger's side.

I'm based in London, UK. My question is would you trust an authorised insurance repairer of insist on work being done by a Jaguar specialist?

Thanks,

Jody

I'm so sorry to hear that.
I think you should TRY insisting on a Jaguar repair.
I believe there is at least one good alternative repairer in the UK if that fails.

I'm really sorry to hear about your very bad experience. Events like that sure lowers your faith in area where you live. And there is nothing worse than not feeling content where you live.

There is no doubt that I would insist that it be repaired by a Jag specialist that is also proficient in top replacement. Dealing with the top mechanism is difficult which requires a Jag specialist. Just MHO.

sucks to hear about what happened.....dont worry, those ******** will get hit with a plague.

i think you should have it fixed at Jaguar....your insurance is paying the bill correct? so even if its an expensive repair...its not coming out of your pocket. that way it comes with the assurance of knowing if someone did something wrong with the fix, it will be taken care of asap

i know a lot of people who have gone to independent shops and got their car in worse condition than when they dropped it off...and it was a nightmare trying to get everything sorted

Bad news, sorry. I would +1 on taking it to Jaguar. The reason most folks on here avoid the dealership is cost. Not an issue in your case.

That being said, I'm sure there are some Londoners on here that can advise you if an alternate shop is required.

Sorry for your loss. There is a very high probabability that your local Jaguar dealership will "farm out" the job to a local top shop anyway.

I suggest letting your fingers do the walking and call around and find out who does the Jaguar warranty top repairs, any shop that is good enough to do Jaguar warranty repairs will say that they do work for Jaguar. Someone out there is contracted to do Jaguar warranty repair, just call around and find out who!

Then you make choice of whether you take repair job to dealer or local repair shop. I prefer dealing directly with the people that are actually going to do the work, so I would go to local shop.

If you know your local dealership service manager he may just tell you this info straight out, but would doubt it because then they don't get repair job and screw the insurnce company out of lots of money! The job should cost approx. 1500.00 to 2000.00 us dollars depends if they got your liner or not
(if not, good time to get it done even if you pay on the side)

Good luck with repairs hope she is back to normal or even better soon.

Kind regards and
Happy Motoring...

Extremely sorry to hear about your bad luck. It amazes me the number of a**holes that are around that get some obscene pleasure out of keying someone's car or cutting up a convertible top. I sort of remember the convertible slashing was a fairly common thing back in the old days and when my wife and I were dating back in the late 1960s someone slashed the top of her Buick Skylark convertible. I had not heard of that happening so much these days but I guess with the crummy economy along with the "let's get the rich" mentality that is being spewed this type of behavior is coming back.

It's a sickening feeling when your car is vandalized. Gratefully mine was a fairly simple paint procedure and I found the offender: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ed-work-56966/

Hopefully this gives you an opportunity to make things even better than they were before. Let us know how it all goes.

I would reccomend bringing it to an upholstery specialist. Looking online you might be able to find one that has a lot of experience.

I only say this because a well experienced upholstery shop would do a better job than a jaguar dealer being that a jaguar dealer does not do convertible tops everyday.

An upholstery shop does this kind of work day in and day out.

Just my two cents.

I'm not back in the UK until Sunday night.
Luckily my brother picked up the car and put it in a secure garage.

I've been living there for 11 years and never had any problem with vandalism on any of my cars.

I'll investigate options on Monday.

Sorry to hear about that. Hope the scumbags' next heroin fix is a tainted one.

I have had roof work done by Jack Smith Trimmers in Swansea. Some distance from you, perhaps, but their roofs are fantastic. Haven't sent a Jag to them, but have had an Audi and three MX5s done.

OMG, that's terrible. Did the snow get inside, too? If I got hold of the cretins who did that, I'd feel like skinning them.

Wow! Just saw the pictures. Really feel bad for you. Hopefully the insurance company will not give you any trouble and you end up with new & better.

Looks like they thought it was a sardine tin.

I'm very lucky that I've got observant neighbours as I'm currently out of the country for a long weekend.

MY girlfriend was at home and I got her to cover the roof as it had been snowing for about 30mins or so before she got there. Unbelievably they stole nothing, not even the stereo.

Has any one replace the hood before themselves, is it massively complicated or can a competant DIY person do it?
