Default RP mode

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Beautiful day here so I figured on one last drive of the year.

1/2 hour out it my 2000 XK8 went into RP mode and would not come out.
It was a shitty return trip but I did get home. Upon shutting her off I could his a hissing sound ( like a slow leak in the tire). Tried to pin its location but it stopped after a min.
I have been getting the RP a few times this summer but pressing down on the throttle would get rid of it. No CEL either.
Today the CEL light would flash on and off but not all the ride back and never stayed on.

I have 82000 kms on her.

Perplexed here

It could be dozens of different things...read the fault codes with an inexpensive OBDII scanner and post them here.

Did not think the code would show up without CEL but it did.

P0355 Ingnition Coil "F" Primary/Secondary Circuit.

Least I have a culprit

Check the connector to that coil. They like to crumble to dust and one of the wires could have worked loose. Otherwise it may just be a bad coil and may have been the source of your random problem all along.

I would tend to believe that. Going to change out the coil this winter. Not many driving days left here. Calling for wet snow by Thursday.

Also check fuel trims, though if you can hear a hiss usually it flags a lean code.
