Just saw something odds this past weekend when I was changing our the SC waterpump. The lower hose was a bit long, perhaps to aid in removal, but as I was lifting the pump out I noticed the hose was 'kinked' maybe not closed but definitely restricting flow. I removed about 3" when I installed new pump to keep it 'open'... just wondered if anyone else saw this. I don't think the hose was ever replaced, 43k miles but perhaps someone put a longer hose in. Regardless if this is the norm it might be reducing cooling to our SC on various cars.

 

Do what you did, however, I usually go to home depot and buy a piece of pex tubing-flexible, but stiff, un kinkabe, and insert it in the rubber hose, so it never kinks.
