Default Sealant for the bedplate

Ok, So I am swapping out an XK 4.2 sump plate on to a good used XJ8 engine- How much sealant should I use and does it go on the bedplate side or the sump side? Also, there are grooves in the sump face that sealant would be pressed into- i that going to cause an issue without enough sealant?

Thanks in advance!

If you will download my copy of the Engine Repair Course 168 V8 and V6 you will have all the answers to all your questions.
It has specific recommendations on the type of sealant.

Look on the internet or you can find it on Gus's site because I sent it to him.

I have that- thank you though! I was asking more about the divots and whether they would swallow the sealant. I don't want to have to pull the engine twice lol.

Page 17 AJV8 Engine Assembly shows the path for the 3mm bead and the 2 areas where a 2mm bead is applied.

Also shows the torque spec for the bolts.
