Default Secret Diagnostics

I don't believe this has been covered before but with my last car (1995 Corvette) there were various "secret" combinations of buttons you could press and/or obd pins that you could short together via a paperclip that would end up displaying all types of diagnostic codes on the display. For example there was some sequence of pressing certain heating/air conditioning buttons that would then display various diagnostics for the hvac system.

Do such secret diagnostic displays exist for these cars? Of course I suppose you can also get these using one of the many code scanners available.

Thanks,

Doug

I think if you set the fan to low, the radio to 105.5FM and then hit the S button it activates the ejector seat!

I thought that was located under the cap on the shift knob?

I know several failures that will flash the dash light error indicators in sequences that give you warnings (ex: 5-2 seat problems) and I seem to remember the airbag light flashes in patterns when it detects problems.

May be lots more, these cars think about themselves even more than I do. Someone with more info will chime in I'm sure.

Actually according to Nigel Thorley in The Essential Buyer's Guide Jaguar XK8 & XKR 1996 - 2005 with regard to the air-conditioning system...

On pre-2003 models, it's possible to carry out a basic diagnostics check yourself, by pressing the 'Auto' and 'Recirculating' buttons simultaneously, while you restart the system. The panel display flashes, and the system enters diagnostics mode. Pressing 'Auto' again will display a zero or one of several error codes. You can cycle through these by using the 'Demist' button. The easiest code to diagnose is '23,' meaning low refrigerant, a common problem, which prevents the compressor from engaging.
Haven't tried it yet though, so proceed at your own risk.

First you have to set up the rotating prismatic condenser, accessed through the radio panel.

And given the age of our cars, it's wise to recharge or replace the dilithium crystals.

Allegedly, there is a sub menu in the nav system that allows you to engage the cloaking system when passing speed cameras.

Do you do this before or after charging the flux capacitor

To get the correct rotation you first have to have the right state of flux, so therefore, before.

Sat here chilling on a Sat eve, and when starting to read this thread I thought my uneventful evening might actually give me some pearls of wisdom that would creatively give me information that would save me millions in garage fees...

Instead, i'm sat here now with a massive grin on my face, and have even shared some of the comments with Mrs Redeye - who thinks all cars are the same!

Well... as a newbie .. to jaguars, anyway .. I do see that there is truth in the observation that the owners actually ARE above average in genteel behaviour and display of good manners..

Have you not noticed that amongst mention of the many arcane special and close-held features of the Jaguar race.. no one has (until now) been so crass as to mention that every single one of them is most assuredly activated by the sacrifice of a largish cheque with a substantial bank balance backing it?

I've explained the behaviour in the past as a sort of automotive masochism

Gus - printed and tried the procedures - came up with a 14 and 23. The 14 says refer to PDU - so where next? I have recharged the system twice in the last 3 months but don't use the AC when the top is down 90% of the time - although after this last time recharging, I have turned it on daily for about 10-15 minutes and the charge seems to be holding.

Steve,
Try clearing the codes first as you have had the system recharged.

Then run the system and see if you get any codes after that.
