Default SeismicGuy is back (XKR purchase imminent)

Am on the hunt again (see other posts for the Saga) and I found a sweet used XKR I am considering but had a quickie question for the gurus. With the several other XKR or XK8 I looked at in the past I noticed that a digital "clock" shows up on the nav screen. The guy that owns this car never used the nav and I do not recall seeing the clock face when test driving the car. Could he have turned off this feature (or never loaded it?)

Thanks,

Doug

Hey Doug, the NAV could have been turned off near the screen. Just call him up and ask him press the on/off button while the car is in on, and see what comes up. If error, there is no DVD disc...if leaper comes up, disc is in there (but old), if clock comes up, you've got pretty recent software, but probably not the latest.

hope that helps.

Thanks. The story with this car is that the current owner has had it for about 1.5 years and he got the car from the first owner who had leased it. The current owner is a car collector/restorer who has some exotics. When he bought the XKR he had intended this to be a daily drive but ended up using his wife's Jag sedan. Consequently, he only put on about 300 miles in the time he owned it - total miles for this 2005 are 16000. Although he has garages for 4 or 5 cars, he needs more room so has decided to get rid of the XKR that he never drives. The car has the Select Edition Warranty until August 2010. This makes me more comfortable about buying a used Jag assuming the the Select Edition Warranty actually covers the most likely/costly things that can go wrong.

Anyway, getting back to the point. Since he did not drive much (but he did just bring the car in for a 40,000 mile service at a reputable Jag dealer), he never bothered learning how to use the various gizmos on the car, such as the NAV. He showed me the location in the trunk where the NAV system is housed and mentioned a DVD that gets inserted (he has this). He agreed I can bring the car in to any mechanic to check it out.

Being as it is an 05, you most likely have the latest version of the Nav disc and there will be a clock on start up.

But does the NAV disc have to be in the system or should the clock show up regardless?
