service interval for Valve clearance and chain replacement

service interval for Valve clearance and chain replacement
Hi All
Can someone tell me where I can find the interval given by Jaguar when to do valve adjustments and when to check chains / replace them? Every 100000km? more / less often?
The service plans in JTIS do not mention any of the above, just standard plans (oil and filter)
Thanks,
Chris

They don't appear because they aren't a Jaguar scheduled maintenance item. The wisdom at the factory must be to wait until it goes bang and then replace the engine! No mention is even made of precautionary inspections.
One thing for sure. If your 2000 XKR is on the original tensioners then it's well beyond time to give them a check.
Similarly, Jaguar don't list a transmission fluid change as a scheduled maintenance item but the experience of many members here shows that it's life can be greatly extended by a change at around 60k miles.

Hi Graham
Thanks for the reply.
The tensioners have been replaced 5 years and 80000km ago, and I have no indication on when the valves have been checked (if any time).
The pre-owner had the tranny fluid replaced 6000km ago, however this was done at a Mitsubishi dealer so I have no idea what fluid is inside and if also the filter was exchanged.
I guess I'll schedule a bigger maintenance for this winter then.
Cheers

Chris,
It sounds like the PO was a careful one because many do miss out on tensioners and transmission fluid. Many members report their XK8/XKR's going to impressive mileages and reports of valve issues are rare. The only regular trouble with heads is warping due to overheating.
Regardless of what the service history shows, I always like to carry out all items on the maintenance schedules on any new (to me) Jaguar so I know for sure nothing has been missed and I then have a baseline for future servicing.

I have a nice tech article by Gary R. VanRemortel on the '03 - '05 XK8 series that includes this: "Gun-drilled camshafts, shimmed-for-life inverted bucket lifters and light (5mm dia) valve stems reduce the valve train mass and cam loads as much as possible." I also seem to recall having seen elsewhere that the valves require no adjustment, although I can't find any such statement elsewhere (might be in the JTS manual).
