Real Guage Install Thwarted? Neet to telescope out

Hi, wondering if you might have experience with this. I was all set to install my real guage temp monitor today and started to remove the trim and dashboard guages. The telescoping motor won't extend! I am able to move the steering down, but not in/out. It is really tight, I am concerned I'll mess something up but let me ask:

Can one remove the trim & dash with the steering all the way in?

I can move the up/down motor manually (remember just disconnect the power to it and it will move easily) and position the steering wheel. Can I manually move the in/out motor somehow?

Better yet, does anyone know the wires that make the telescoping motor move in/out? I couldn't tell from the bottom but I am willing to apply 12 volts to the motor directly to move it (yes I am 100% sure the motor works, just not getting a signal from the switch / body proc module - that's a different battle for me down the road).

This would have 2 benefits: I could install the real guage; I could set memory 2 with the steering fully extended.

There must be a way since Jaguar has to replace the steering when this motor fails.

Please let me know your experience.

Thanks,

John

I have the same problem with the 'reach' operation on my car. I was able to remove the panel with the steering wheel in the in and down position to install the 'RealGauge'. A little tight but doable. The more typical problem with the 'reach' operation is a little 3 inch cable is broken between the motor and the worm drive.
