Default Severe metal grind in reverse 2003 XKR

Hi Guys,

Wondering if anyone could help me diagnose the new issue with the XKR. I am having a severe metal grinding, creaking, metal on metal sound coming out of the rear when I go in reverse for the first 20 feet or so. It almost entirely goes away if I hold down the brakes a bit when reversing.

Two things that I have recently done is replaced my rear rotors and pads. Also, a few days after doing that myself, I took the Jag into the shop to have the upper rear spring mounts replaced as they were clunking. I did have to hammer the rotors very hard and for a long time to get them off. My concern is that this could have caused the bearings to go bad or damaged the hub but I do not recall the noise happening after doing my brakes but it was very soon before I took it in to the shop. After getting it back from the shop it happened every time I drove the car.

There seems to be a very little bit of play in the rear wheels when I shake them relative to the front wheels. Not sure if this is normal and it is a very slight amount of play.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Corey

I too had metal grinding in reverse, more so on full lock.
it was the tabs on the brembo callipers catching the inner face of the rear rotors, although i couldn't see any means of adjustment.
i chamfered them back with a power file and all was good.

Sossybaby might be right. I inspected the area but did not see anything off. It was a quick inspection. Over the next few days after my original post I was noticing that if I held the brake when reversing the noise was 99% reduced. Eventually, after a couple of weeks it completely went away. I still sleep with one eye open with this car but I think that it must have had something to do with the new brakes and something had to get broken in I suppose. Very odd but it is always a relief when the car fixes itself.
