Default shakey xenon

2003 XK8.
Has xenon headlamps, one light beam shakes when I hit bumps at night. Loose bulb...? Has anyone seen this before?
I tried calling the dealer, he started talking about a new entire headlight assembly, I got scared...
Can you access the bulbs easily to check it out? Has anyone tried?

Gerry.

shaguar, this should be easy to fix. What you will first need to do is to move the front wheels such that the side with the shaky bulb has its wheel turn such that the front side of the tire is tucked into the wheel well as far as it will go. This will give you access to the front of the wheel well liner. From here, about half way up the wheel well liner, you will see an access cover. Remove this cover. This will give you access to the back of the headlight assembly. Now, reach in and remove the plastic cap covering the bulb. This will expose a metal spring clip that holds the bulb against the housing. Make sure that this clip is properly positioned to hold the bulb. If it appears to be in the proper position, you can reach your hand in and wiggle the bulb from the back by grabbing on to the wires and seeing where things move. That will give you an idea if it is just a problem with the clip or if you have a failure of the headlight assembly.
