Default Side View Mirror Covers

I would like to repaint the side view mirror covers as they are a bit sand blasted on my 2004 XK8. Does anyone know if they come off as I would like to not have a masked paint edge next to the grey trim area and wold like to paint them on the bench.

Hi, Yes the plastic cover will definitely come off.

You have to use a thin tool and pop the sides as there are small tabs built on the covers to pop in place when installed (careful not to break tabs).

Good luck and remember
Happy Motoring...

The official JTIS procedure is to detach the glass and then release the cover from the inside, but like Vettegood said, it can be done without taking the glass out.

It's very easy to break the mirror glass removing it. Whichever method you choose to use, be careful.

I have gotten the Side view mirror covers off, and they are fastened differently than the PDF file posted shows. The mirror has to come off, and trying to get it off without wood have broken the mirror cover. On the 2004 there is 3 posts that are fastened with a metal spring keeper. It is more than just plastic clips around the edge of the mirror.

Default Change over is 2002-03

I looked at other years in JTIS and there was indeed a difference between years. But according to the service manual it was supposed to change between 2002-03.

Wonder if they have been replaced before on your 04?
