Default SLM/LCM:- failing resistors

Thought I'd collate what information I had about the occasional rear lamp failure messages that may be caused by faults in the above modules.

I've included both the integrated SLM and the system for the older cars with a separate 'Lamp Control Module'

These internal components usually overheat before failing which makes the values hard to determine, so I hope this may be of use if your module decides to hold a barbecue.

Mike

Hi Mike

Resurrecting an old thread, as its driving me nuts getting 'Check Rear Lights'warning message on the dash - only when I turn the lights on though, never if not.

Changed all bulbs in each rear cluster (using same brand) and have used electrical cleaner on everything including the electrical feed to both clusters. So....

Came across this thread where you have mentioned checking the SLM. Please excuse my ignorance, but where can I find this circuit board you have shown in your photos?

Many thanks
Jules

Hi Redeye,
On your 2003, it is the main circuit board inside the Security & Locking module, buried under the fuses/relays in the trunk.

So you get the warning as soon as you turn the lights on (no brakes, fogs, reversing, etc.)?

Thanks for that. I'll have look later.

Warning only comes on when i turn the lights on, not when driving without them on - including reversing. Fog lights can only be used with the lights on, so I already have the warning appear.

All bulbs are brand new and all related fuses are good.

..so unlikely to be a grounding problem.
I'd expect the lamps to be dim or out on one side if it was an SLM issue. I take it all four tail lamps do illuminate?

When it turns dark later I’ll do a short vid and post. Pretty sure they all did when I checked a few days ago.
