Talking So here's one I bet you haven't heard of...

This is the oddest thing. When my fuel gauge gets to the middle of the red/low fuel line, it sounds like there's a waterfall inside my gas tank. I can hear it from inside the car. I've checked, there's no fuel smell, no fuel in the trunk, no fuel under the car. When I add even one gallon of fuel, the sound goes away.


What the heck could possibly cause that!?! It doesn't cause any issues, but does in fact remind me to put fuel in my car...

I haven't had my in-tank pump out of the Jaguar but have on both the Volvo's. Sounds like you have a hole in a hose between the pump and the outside world. As long as the hole is under the level of the fuel in the tank it is only stirring it. When the fuel falls below it sprays inside the tank. I am surprised that it has not shown up in engine performance.

not being an *** here but why would you ever let the gas get that low. I have always thought that it is hard to FP's to let gas get that low, not enough gas to keep them cool.

I get nervous when the needle drops to 1/4. Especially in the Jaguar I have noticed that for some odd reason once you drop even below 1/2 the speed with which the needle progresses downward seems accelerated.

Also there is the urban legend (?) about not letting the fuel get too low since you will start sucking up the sediment in the tank.

The fuel pump has a filter attached, so you won't suck up sediment. But the fuel in the tank does provide some degree of cooling.
