You're in the X150 Forum, for 2007-2015 aluminum XK/XKR models. Your 1997 XK8 is the previous X100 model and you should post your inquiries here:

Don,

I've moved your thread from X150 to X100 forum.

Just a quick heads-up. Before you start your new-to-you engine, be sure to double check the status of the secondary chain tensioners. This is THE major flaw of the early engines. Plastic was heavily involved in the original design (yes, plastic!). You need to upgrade to the third generation all-metal tensioner BEFORE you let these plastic parts ruin your day. If these fail, slack in the secondary chains lead to valves coming into contact with their respective pistons.

The new tensioners are available, somewhat affordable and installing them is within the reach of a determined home mechanic with hand tools (look up the zip tie method).

Best of luck, keep us posted.

I admire the moderators who keep this forum sorted out. When I first arrived I had no clue there were so many mechanically dissimilar Jaguars. Moving the threads around seems to be a full time job.
