Default Software/OBD2

Just got my first XK8. I need software that can clear the codes on the transmission and read all other codes. Any suggestions?

here's a starting point: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/g...oved-**-33347/

Search the threads. Lots of info on various readers and scanners. You can spend anywhere from $20 to $1000 depending on how serious of a mechanic you are. I spent $39 after coupons on a Harbor Freight special and it does the job for me for basic codes and resets.

Not sure about transmission codes though.

Reading codes is easy and cheap until you get into the codes beyond the standard set. For less than $20 you can get a OBDII data port to Bluetooth converter and an app for a smart phone or laptop computer. The TORQUE app for android phones is amazing. If you are asking about the extended code set for the transmission then the readers start at about $500.

Mongoose JLR but be aware you can totally wreck your car's config so it won't start.

JagV8,

Having trouble understanding your comment but none of the $500 and below devices will allow you to do anything that will negatively affect operation.

If you get into reprogramming that is a different tale.

Sorry but you're wrong. Mongoose can be under $100

Unfamiliar with Mongoose by Drew Tech I assume. Reading their web page it does appear that the device will permit reflash of auto computers with appropriate software. DrewTech Mongoose Vehicle Network Interface

Interesting . . . now is there any Jaguar reflash software out there?

I know there are cheaper ways to go, but I think these on ebay: Jaguar Land Rover Diagnostics Coding Programming Kit Dealer Software IDS SDD JLR | eBay

are worth the few extra dollars. They resolder the adapter cables and pre-test them, plus the have pre-installed the software on a virtual machine saving long installation times and installation gotcha's.

That's not expensive in itself, but I would have to sell my 97 and buy a newer car to use it. Too bad.
