Default Someone please sell me some brake pads

Hello to all you dealer types. I can't figure out what brake pads to order.

I have an '03 XKR Coupe with pretty red 4 piston calipers all around (as the girl friend would say - lol).

All I need are reasonable pads (I'm not racing anymore). My only preferences would be for reduced dust and not wear out my rotors too quickly.

I was hoping to delay this job until I was ready to change the front wheel bearings as well, but I think after 40K+ miles and the onset of some squealing, they need to be changed this weekend (2/8-2/9) before the next 2K road trip (THE FOLLOWING WEEKEND!!! - just shoot me).

Anyone want my money?

HELP!

Try your local NAPA store or just call one of the online dealers like jagbits or motorcarsltd..

Can recommend the Hawk ceramics here (assuming you have the Brembo set), have had 4 sets of these pads on my car, low dust and they are very gentle to rotors.

(Am now using race pads from Pagid, they chew up rotors quicker than themselves, but the braking power is phenomenal)

The Red Hawk pads are actually "red"? I figured it was just the box. OMG! Now I have to consider how the pads will look in my red calipers! I guess BLUE is out.

This is worse than a wife looking for shoes (lol).

Hopefully I'm not resurrecting a thread that is too old, but it's spot-on for me from a few months ago. I'm having trouble trying to find a set of front pads for my 2000 XKR from any of the vendors listed above including Welsh Enterprises, except NAPA. Haven't tried them yet. Are they really recommended? I'm looking for something with low dust for normal use. Where can the Hawks be obtained from? I'm impressed with a set of Ferrodo DS2500s I have on my Audi, so something like those would be ideal. Looking to buy ASAP.

Also, do all XKRs have Brembos or were they an option?

My XKR (2002) does NOT have Brembos. I think at least the pre-2003 XKR's had ATE Brakes (325mm front rotors and 305mm rear rotors). The Brembos on the earlier XKR's were an "R-Performance" option which was NOT the default per Jaguar and our own "motorcarman". The Brembo's are (355mm front rotors and 330mm rear rotors) and only came on cars with stock 20" wheels. Mine came stock with 18" wheels and the Brembo rotors won't even fit an 18" wheel.

I got a set of 4 drilled and slotted rotors and premium semi-metalic pads at brakeperformance.com at a very reasonable price (and they have a sale going on now). (at least on the brakeperformance site for the year 2000 XKR you select XK8 as your model when ordering). As a matter of fact my XKR is currently in the hands of "motorcarman" for rotors/pads, general maint, and a checkup at this moment. (picking up the car Saturday)

I'm almost embarrassed to admit this, but I bought a front set of pads from Autozone for mine over a year ago. They were the premium gold I think (semi-metallic). They work very well and produce almost no brake dust. I have been very pleased and the price was right.

I cannot speak to how they compare to the higher priced Akebonos, Red Hawks, etc., but for daily driving and the occasional "speed tests" they perform well for me.

Thanks for this and the PM, neighbor! Will check this out and may place an order this weekend. My rear pads are fine but fronts are nearing the 'paper-thin' stage. The rotors should be fine but will scope them before to make sure.

Mike- I still think you're a sane man. For basically a daily driver, their premium pads are worth considering on your experience alone. Great to hear about the low dust as well, big problem for me at the moment. That rain we had this week? Spotted wheels I had! Yuck.

I ultimately decided on a set of Akebono ceramics from Advance Auto for my rear Brembos. I think they cost about 70 bucks. They work quite well. Not too grabby. Very stable on hard application. Dust seems OK. They might occasionally squeal just a little when they're cool.

My racing days have long passed, so reasonable performance is quite good enough. These pads work just fine me. I'll put them on the front as well when the time comes.
