Default Speaker sizes?

Would anyone be kind enough to tell me the sizes of the speakers fitted to a convertible xkr 1999 with premium audio?

My system sounds shot compared to my old coupe, I suspect because you need the volume much louder in the drop top, the old coupe was as quiet as a mouse and you could really appreciate the audio system. My convertible isn't so quiet at 80 mph with the roof down and I regularly find the volume all the way up just to hear it. I also seem to loose a lot of volume when connected to the iPod compared to the normal radio.

Anyway, I'm going to start with replacing all the speakers see if that cleans up the bass and gets rid of the woolyness.

Many thanks in advance

I replaced my rear speakers and it made a world of difference and found no reason to do the others YET.

Blue XK, try this go to your ipod setting and go to music ( under itunes&app store,3rd from bottom section) make sure the sound check is off and then go to EQ and check the "flat" make sure volume limit is off as well. You will find that the music volume will go way up with these 3 setting and sound much better.
Hope this helps and

Happy Motoring...

Thanks vette, I checked the settings but am still suffering. The EQ settings make the biggest difference, but my sound is still poor.

I'm hopeful for a new set of speakers.

Thanks again

I replaced my standard speakers with jbl 160mm / 6.5" speakers straight replacement for rear and doors on my 2001 convertible.

Certainly made a difference but changing the radio made even more and we can hear it with hood down allthough need to turn it down when you slow down as look a bit silly with it blaring away, especially at my age!

Thanks Paul 6.5's in both doors and the rears makes things easier.
Now the hunt for some reasonable speakers that won't break the bank!

I also think depth is important especially the door speakers. I used JBL GTO 628 and GTO 637 speakers the depth of both was 2 1/16 53mm. The difference was due to doing doors and rear at different times.

Also these have tweeters and I think premium radio has separate tweeters so maybe worth checking with audio specialist what to use unless others here have views.
