Default Speed sensor

I removed the front wheels on my XK8, removed the bolts retaining the speed sensors, removed the wiring connector but I could not budge the speed sensors. Everything I have read just says 'remove speed sensor' but it was impossible. How do I get them out? I didn't bother trying the rear wheels.

John, they just slide out. At least mine always did. I wonder what's binding yours. You did remove the hold down bolt right? As I recall it is 1 bolt per sensor.

if you missed it, no worries just let us know if you need help spotting it.
**edit- sorry John it was late, I see you pulled the bolt.

The speed sensors probably haven't been moved for a decade or more - on my car they were stuck solid, but will come off eventually.

As said in the original post, I removed the bolts but the speed sensors would not budge. I tried to ease them out using a flat bladed knife, I gave them a dose of WD40 and left them for an hour and I tried to tap them from the other end using a very large screwdriver. Neither front sensor would come out.

There are much better things than WD40!! (The clue is in its name.)

Use the CRC brand of Freeze-Off. That will help any stubborn part relax its grip, especially a disc brake rotor.

The sensors can get road grit between them and the housing. Sticking a pressure washer nozzle in there should dislodge it. If that doesn't do it, you could try a strong solvent such as lacquer thinner to dissolve the crud.
