Arrow Squeaky brakes - cheaper Options for 04 XKR ...Thanks

I need some inexpensive brake options for my XKR. I have squeaky brakes thats loud. Not for sure if I need pads or pads and rotors. Any suggestions ? It sounds like the brake squeal is coming from the front brakes.

Do you have Brembos? The Mintex pads are well known for squeaking a lot, most people opt for the Ferrordo DS2500, another reason could also be if you have Brembos with cross drilled discs, check the holes of the discs if they are blocked this can cause squeals and brake fade

If you have standard brakes you could always fit EBC with redstuff pads

Toofast:

You didn't say how many miles you had on this set of brakes. My original OEM XK8 brakes lasted 59K miles, and there was enough metal to turn the rotors once.

Brake pad manufacturers design their pads to begin squeaking toward end of their life--as a warning to change them before they gouge the rotors.

I changed my Lexus brake pads as soon as I heard the first squeak, but all 4 rotors already had deep grooves. The new Hawk pads are ceramic, and much cleaner than the original semi-metallac pads.

I understand some of the Brembo equipped XKR pads and rotors are grossly expensive. It'd probably be advisable to keep an especially close watch on XKR brake pads, and replace them at set intervals--long before the pads wear down enough to dig into the rotors.

I have about 52k miles but the squeaky brakes are coming from the front I believe.

Squeaking brakes =/= need to be replaced.

My brakes started squeaking a few days ago. I took them into the shop... 10mm on the fronts and 8mm on the back. Good to go.

Inspect your brakes regularly.

Should I just replace the pads only or should I replace both rotors & pads ? What do you think about this setup below ?

If your car is an '04 XKR you undoubtedly have Brembo brakes. I don't think the brakes in the link you posted will fit.

I've got the same crap going on with my '05 XKR. My brakes are 5 K new, replaced at the dealer. I am currently trying to load the brakes as hard as I can to try and correct the problem. Several very hard stops ect.

First, confirm that your car has the Brembos. If it does, call these folks and ask some questions. "Some" of these ebay sellers really don't know what they are talking about.

I just ordered these Ceramic Brake Pads (front) for my 2002 XKR.

PART #CD394A FRNT CERAMIC BRAKE PADS LIFETIME WARRANTY - eBay (item 230574108092 end time May-14-11 14:51:40 PDT)

They are made by Kang Rich International. I ordered a set of their Ceramic Pads for my 2006 VW Touareg. They are being installed next week. They appear to be well made and are quite heavy.

KRIC - Home

As I have not tested these yet, I can not tell you if they are any good. I bought them for my Touareg because the factory pads were worn and the dust problem is terrible. Since these are Ceramic, they should have less dust and perform better. We will see.

If they are terrible, at least they were cheap. ;-)

The pads for the Jag will be here early next week, so I will get them on asap and post my verdict here. I will be installing these myself. I was gonna do the VW myself, but they are more difficult and I don't have a torque wrench that will do 199 Ft/Lbs. So off to my mechanic friend. $100 for installation is well worth it. Pads and Rotors. Good to have friends.

By the way, the VW Touareg has the biggest brake pads I have ever seen. They make the performance pads on my Corvette look small. I will take a pic of them next to the XKR (non-Brembo) pads when they get here.

no ceramic, metal mix....they suck
KEVLAR only, get red stuff or green stuff depending on your needs
they are the BEST pads out there, never squeak and minimal dusting
just my 2 cents here and its all I ever use on all my jags!

To each his/her own! I will not turn rotors, only new premium discs and use only ceramic pads. I will only replace brakes in full sets of all 4 wheels. Maybe I am too **** retentive, but when it comes to brakes, I will not just get by for replacements. Brakes are the most important system on a car and safety is the most important to me. It feels good to go fast, but feels even better to be able to stop!

I agree with the no turning of rotors, no questions there
pads, IMHO KEVLAR are best tho!
