Smile squeeky brakes

I am not too far from replacing brakes. Existing brakes were installed by previous owner and squeek--any advice???

Replace them. I'm not familiar enough with my xkr yet to know if it has wear indicators on the brakes, but if they are squeaking enough to be irritating, I would replace them. It appears to be a fairly easy job. Just need to decide what type of brake material you want to use. I'm sure others with much more knowledge than me will help you, so hang in there and good luck with your brakes.

I don't know what type of pads you have but certain pads squeak, some are manufactured to help eliminate the squeal. Sometimes the disc gets glazed from softer stopping. One of the techs wrote that more aggressive use of the brakes clean the discs and help prevent the squeal. I have stock Brembo's and they squeal at times but if I do more aggressive braking they seem to quiet down.

When I changed my rotors and installed stock front pads, it took about 1000 miles and some concerted agressive stopping to finally quiet them down. Now they are fine.

Changed the brakes on my XJ8 because of the brake squeal. New rotors and ceramic pads cured the problem (also cured the brake dusting). Getting ready to do the same on my XKR. They have really started to squeal in reverse.
