Welcome to the forum. I'm surprised no one has been able to help. When you identified a black cylinder, did you mean a dome with the vacuum line out of the top? If yes, that's the vacuum switch for the cruise control.

Which leads me to the next questions: When you say the car doesn't have cruise control do you mean there is no button next to the sport button below the gear shift? And no cruise control buttons on the steering wheel?

Please visit the new member area and introduce yourself and your car. It's important to know what year it is.

year of your car??? I have never heard of a XK8 with no CC.
The black tube is made of plastic? About the size of a pencil? Looking at the car from the front, TB in the back, the black tube is going into the side of the TB? If itis what I think it goes from pass side of TB over into the pass side shock tower area. That is part of the braking system. If that tube is off/broke that may be causing the stalling????

This is the BOTTOM half of the TB/TB elbow. See the middle opening with a brass ring showing in it, that is where the tube I am thinking of comes out of and goes over into the pass side shock tower. It is some type of vac source brake related.
Getting any check light/codes?

Look and listen for a vacuum leak. If you cant find one, how do your brakes feel? A brake booster can be a huge vacuum leak, if you are stretching a hole in the membrane. Do you hear any kind of hissing, when you step in the brakes, while the car is running? That is what I would look at first, and I too have never seen an XK8 without cruise. Do you mean it just doesn't work? That is run off of vacuum also......Good luck.....Mike

it has no vacuun leaks i can hear, you can jump on the brakes repeatedly when the car is stationary and it runs perfectly, only stalls when approaching junctions,it has no cruise control **** or switches or vacuum tank under the drivers wheel arch that i can find,p1226 is the only code i have coming up,im wondering if it has the wrong TB on???

We have all been concentrating on the presumption of a vacuum leak. Could it be, that your trans is not releasing, when coming to a stop?

What year is you car?? I have never heard of a non cruise car. On my 03 the button is NOT by the Sport Drive button. My controls are on the steering wheel.
Again, is the pipe on the pass side of the TB. Is it black and runs straight off to the pass side shock tower? If you can look at the pass side of the TB towards the middle to lower side do you see a HOLE, it will have a brass/copper looking ring inside of it.

I have an XK8 without cruise control (they are not uncommon over here). If you can upload a photo, I will understand where this hose is and compare it with mine.

I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help; mine is nothing like that. Here's a picture of mine (RHD 2001 4.0l)
