I've a 2001 XKR with 140,000 km with a bit of pulley bearing squeal from the supercharger drive when the car is cold. I've decided to change the belt and pulleys, but it appears Jag had a problem in the early years and made a change to the design of the tensioner and idler pulleys. Can anyone give me some background and let me know where I can get the required parts (other than Jaguar)? Engine number is A16879.

This forum is for the 2006-onwards cars, so perhaps the moderators can shift this post to the 1996-onwards forum - someone there will have the info you need.

Good luck!

sallyb, can you describe the squeal you are hearing when the car is cold? Does it sound like this?

No it doesn't howl like that. Yours sounds more like a jet taking off!!! Mine is a squeal and sounds like its coming from one of the pulleys. The plan is to take off the supercharger belt and run the engine to see if the squeal is gone. If so I'll update all the parts. If not I'll move on to the main drive belt.

I've moved your thread from XK/XKR to XK8/XKR forum.

Members here with the same model will be able to advise on the pulley.

you'll definitely want to visit one of our jaguar dealership sponsors and get the tensioner pulley, as it comes with a new bolt as well. You can get the idler pulley from anywhere (get the metal one, not plastic)...try rockauto (Dayco pulley, $14)

I do most of my shopping for dealer parts online with our sponsor Gaudin Jaguar...their online ordering database is a breeze to use...but remember to buy lots of items, as shipping for one vs 5 are practically the same. Its best to call them for this particular part, however, as I show two different belt tensioner parts when I browsed the categories, both around $100 plus shipping. Good luck!

Thanks for the information H20boy. I found Barratt to be competetive also. The bearings in the idler were shot, so I'm pretty sure that was the problem but am changing to Jags latest design.
