Default superglue to the rescue

After accelerating briskly (floored it) to pass a car, yesterday, in W. Los Angeles, I was greeted with a spray of orange antifreeze and steam pouring out of the engine bay. I "limped" into a gas station a half a block away thinking I had just blown a radiator hose. I didn't want to leave the car in the station, nor did I want to wait for a tow truck to take the car back to the valley at rush hour. I popped the hood only to find that the major coolant hoses were okay but a small hose that connects the coolant fill tank to the manifold in front of the supercharger had broken at the plastic nipple attachment. In fact the plastic nipple was still in the end of the tiny hose, and the break was clean and flush from the piece that wrapped around the brass fitting that screwed into the manifold. Knowing that my cousin lived a few blocks away where I could leave my car for the night, I walked into the snack shop at the gas station, asked if they sold Superglue, and walked out with a small tube. I glued the flush surfaces of the hose/nipple to the remaining piece and drove the few blocks without incident. Picked up the hose and the car this morning. You never know when a handy little tube of Superglue can come to the rescue!

wow, I can't believe it held! My 5-minute industrial epoxy couldn't hold a fuel pressure sensor closed at 50 psi...and that was after an hour of letting it set. Maybe I tried to hard, swatting a fly with a sledgehammer, so to speak.
