My 2001 is suffering from the usual problem of the autodim mirrors going all cloudy as the electrochromic fluid fails. I've bought a new wing mirror glass on eBay (left on the photo) and although it fits the wing mirror housing, it's smaller than the original mirror as it doesn't have the black surround (right on the photo) leaving quite a big gap.

Has anyone tried swapping the glass between the two? The only way I can see getting the old glass out is to smash it, while avoiding the alien blood inside. Has anyone done this, or have a better idea?
