Default Tensioner Replacement Time!

Monday I will be heading to Wayne's (cjd777) house where we will have the fun job of replacing my tensioners finally.
In Sept 2002 at 57k miles one of the original tensioners failed and 2 exhaust valves got bent. The dealer allegedly replaced the tensioners (upper & lower) and the chains. When I called the dealer and they looked up the service invoice they could not tell me if metal tensioners were used or not. As the metal ones only had recently come available then there is a good chance they used 2nd gen plastic instead. With my luck there will almost certainly be plastic there. So I have collected up all the parts I will need (hopefully) including 4th gen metal upper tensioners, new gaskets, grommets etc, new Iridium plugs and new air filter. And picking up Ultra Gray Sealant , MAF cleaner and brake cleaner today. Even if it turns out there are already metal tensioners in place it won't be a wasted job as I will have piece of mind and can stop worrying that the turning the ignition key is playing Russian Roulette with the engine and the car will instantly be a parts car one fine day.
I'll try and take some pics of the process to post here.

Wayne will do you right and the two of you will have great fun in the process. Be sure to drool over his 1947 Triumph Roadster and 1970 TR6 while you're there....

Best of luck for a smooth, unblemished tensioner job with no major surprises....

Hopefully the dealer mechanics didn't leave any fun problems behind when they replaced them 13 years ago.

might pick up a can of TB cleaner as well since you'll have the air intake off already, Don't use MAF cleaner on it. Give it a good scrubbing.

Looks like this is gonna happen Tuesday instead of Monday as its now scheduled to be cold on Monday and will be working on the car outside of the garage. Supposed to be 60's Tuesday so that should work fine.

Glad to hear you decided to keep it as opposed to the alternatives you were considering!

The ECU repair fixed the other problems and its running great now. But even though the tensioners were replaced 40k miles ago they couldn't tell me if they put plastic ones in again or the metal ones that were just available then. So I want to open it up and if I see plastic they will get replaced so I can trust this thing.
Yesterday ended up not working out so it may be another week or 2 before this gets done.
