Default sensor malfunction

I have a 1999 XK8. When I get out ( every thing turned off, keys in hand) the car gives a constant ding, ding like you left the keys in, or lites on. When I shut the door, ding quits, but when I try to use the remote lock, or trunk release, I get an audible alarm and fob won't work. It seems like there is some sensor that is malfunctioning thinking some thing is still on, or key left in ignition. Any thoughts?

John - I've moved your post from the General tech section to the XK8/R specific section where you will get a better response.

When you remove the key - check that the little door on the key slot closes - sometimes just a gentle tap on the bottom of the steering wheel will free it. If sticking a drop of machine oil or squirt of wd40 will fix

also see if the car is in valet mode its easy to accidently hit it with your knee getting out ...lock and unlock the drivers door manually to come out of valet mode .
