Default Test drive for me in Salt Lake area?

Hello fellow XK fans!
Last week an impatient SUV driver decided to run over the nose of my BR Green 02 XKR. Insurance has totaled it. My settlement is close to what I need to purchase an 07 XKR but it is located in Salt Lake area. I was hoping I could find another XK enthusiast to take a gander and test drive, look for codes, rust etc instead of me dropping $$ to fly out and find it's a bad deal. I have open heart surgery to replace a failing mitral valve (yes, my heart needs a valve job!) scheduled in about 3 weeks and want to get a replacement back in my garage before then as I will be layed up for months - and would love to just sit in a chair and stare at the artful design of an XK! If you are in need of parts from the 02 I can try to find out where it gets sent for salvage. Motor needs new octopus hose and right cat is failing. Deck lid is damaged, 3rd brake light busted too from tree falling on it late October. Other then that pretty good - has BBS Detroit wheels which are rare.

If you are in the northern burbs of Salt Lake I would appreciate it if you could help me out.

Thanks!

😭

Well, haven't you got a lot on your plate?? The crushed car would have been enough for me to need heart surgery. I can't help you out with your request but I wish you the best in both projects. TM

If you can't get someone to check it over for you could you Skype or Zoom with the owner? I was in the same boat when I bought mine, living about 600 miles away. I Skyped with the previous owner so I could see under the car, wheel wells, trunk etc and could hear the engine running.

i bought my 2002 XKR sight unseen but used a shop familiar with high-end cars that did repairs and detailed pre-purchase inspections. Paid $300 on one XKR and saved me a major headache as they said it would take a good $4000 to make it right. Used same shop when another XKR came available and they absolutely loved this one (also $300). In both cases they provided detailed inspection reports with images of and trouble areas. So glad I did this. (I live around 1000 miles away from the cars locations)

Sorry to see that your car is not repairable.

I ran across this one recently on Orlando CL. Not sure if a plain old 2007 XK is appealing but this black one looks pretty good for the price even with the mileage. Especially if the service was always done at same dealer so records must exist.

LOL I don't plan to drive a supercharged version because it will become a "must have" for me. Sorry to hear about your health and car. The XK8 and XK are very different cars as I'm sure many owners in here know. I've driven both. A perfect low mileage 06 (top s roughly the same price as a good 08-09 XK (internal antenna, the 07 has external) so it will be a hard choice. Why the change?

Dfbender, which shop did you use? There are a couple of good Bay Area shops (JAG in San Rafael for instance), Congrats on dodging the bullet. I've seen a couple of Midwest XK8's. Both private sales, neither owner willing to take somewhere for a PPI so I passed on both.

I purchased my XKR in Scottsdale, AZ and used a shop in that locale. Let me know if you’d still like the name.
