Default Is there multiple engine coolant temperature read outs?

Hi All,

I was playing around with my new to me icarsoft obd2 reader. I noticed there are multiple read outs that come up for engine coolant temperature. Which is the correct one or is there multiple points the temperature is sensed?

I should note, I have the real gauge installed on my car.

Thanks!!

Looks like real guage shows 200 Fahrenheit. Guessing that the display of 93 is closest. Too late for my brain to calculate C to F :-).

The 93C looks like it is the correct reading. What the other values are is anyone's guess, but its likely the reader is labelling/converting the wrong PIDs and they could be entirely unrelated to temperature.

This could explain the spurious temperature readings in this thread - he was looking at the wrong data:-

There are two temperatures - 93 celsius and 200 fahrenheit.
(or 366 kelvin)

I couldn't believe the temperature readings I was getting either so I took the car to the mechanic for a full diagnostic test. My icarsoft reader was reading 135C but the mechanic said the temperature was 89 - 90C so your 93C is probably correct. I emailed Icarsoft to ask them about the discrepancy but have not received a reply.

It certainly explains why it was wrong - the reader was reading the wrong values, but labelling it as "coolant temperature".

Double check with a $5 ELM reader or any other basic scanner, always accurate readouts for me.

As far as I can see for the '01 XK8/R, there appears to be only one PID for this (ECT) that can be reported by INST, ECM and TCM, but should be the same. The only other thing appears to be the gauge reading which shouldn't be 131C.
