Throttle body Question
Guys
Can any of you experts out there clarify something for me? On top of the throttle body, my 1998 xk8 convertible has a short piece of plastic pipe sticking out, which looks as if it should go somewhere (a bit like a vacuum advance), but it is only about 3" long and is open ended?
Sorry no picture, I'm away on business, but could send pic at the weekend.

Hi,
I am no expert, I had the same on my 1997 XK8. Took me a while to work out where it went. From the threads I read, models without cruise control fitted, the pipe simply ends, I think it has a small hole for it to pop in to.
So if you have not got cruise control, then this may make sense.

It is indeed linked to the cruise control and goes to the vacuum cyclinder in the righthand wing via a T piece or 2, if you do not have cruise it is of no consequence so just goes off to air, the whole point of it being to stop dirt going into the throttle body from the top
It is the throttle control for the cruise control.
I suspect that may be my problem, but I don't know where to go from here. The vacuum line disappears under the ECM and I would like to check for leaks.

All the vacuum lines go into the wheel well, remove the wheel arch liner on your passenger side and you will see everything, you can check the solenoids just with a battery, quite easy to pull out a short way as a complete unit as it is all on a frame, just a couple of bolts, remove the electrical connector and does not matter which way around but connect the live and earth to the solenoid and you should hear a click, if you dont then you have a bad solenoid, not massive money around $40
