Timing chains and intake valves

Timing chains and intake valves
Hi, I'm a new member that only wants to give you something else to worry about. I have a 1998 XK8. the serpentine belt tensioner failed causing, naturally, the belt to fail as well. Somehow the belt, or tensioner shrapnel, pushed the crankshaft seal into the timing chain cover along with some pieces of belt. These parts and pieces then got caught up in the chain(s) and created enough racket to scare me spitless. Long story short three bent valves, timing chains and attendant accessories, and slightly less than $2,000 later I am back on the street. All because of the failure of a tensioner. No it gave no warning just detonated. i will now change that out every few thousand miles. Sleep well. Uncle Butch

Welcome to the forum Uncle Butch,
We've had some reports posted of belts or belt tensioners and pulleys failing before but I can't recollect so dramatic or costly results. Be interested to see the pics.
When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST section and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.
