Tire tread depth
Hello all,
So I have a 2002 XK8, last year I put on new tire front and back. A few weeks ago I ran over something and it cut one of the rear tires. I was able to order a new one, same brand same model. But my question is, my "old" tires have around 4k miles on them. Will this matter on the rear of these cars? I know if it was AWD it matters.

The heating up of one tire more than the other due to a small tread dept is all theory and not demonstrated in actual practice, excluding racing of course.
I have pressure and temperature gauges on all four tires, At various times in my ownership I’ve had the need changed a single tire due to punctured, and also just change two tires due to wear, besides the usual changing all four at the same time At no time did the tire temperatures vary by even one degree, even after driving for hours.
However, when the car was stationary and the sun was hot, the tire side in the sun was showing higher tire temperatures until I drove for a bit and all sides started getting equal sun and equal road friction heat..
Most tire monitoring systems are pretty accurate. If I spin the rear tires they will show a brief temperature rise vs the front tires. Etc.

Never had a single tire replacement impede any of our vehicles' performance in any way. I agree that you will be good to go just replacing the one tire....
