top latch
i have a 97 xk8 convertable and when i press the switch the back windows go down and i hear a motor or pump running but the top latch does not release ?? is there a manual release as well and i am sure this is a common problem just do not know where to start

Check out Gus's posts on this and all related issues in his many posts in the section.
I'm sure he's covered this many times, or check out one of his posts and look at his site.............very helpful and good info
There is a manual release using an allen key through an access hole in the windscreen headliner.
You should check the fluid level in the pump first, it's in the trunk, and make sure the by-pass pet **** is closed tightly.
Follow Jim's advice also.

Follow Norris' advice. Check fluid level and petcock. To get to the pump remove the panel covering the CD changer in the boot.

Check the fluid level and that the petcock at the tank is closed (clockwise) as suggested earlier. Be sure the fluid level is good and the petcock is closed and if the roof does not operate do not panic you may have confused the system attempting to open and close the roof. Let us know what you find.
