The car is from Atlanta and was serviced by a Jag dealer there. I just got her 3 weeks ago. If you come across any good mechanics in Upstate SC or South Charlotte, please let me know. I'll do the same.

-- still no sign of the stability control fail message -- I may tackle cleaning the abs sensors this weekend just to be sure.

 

I looked down at the dash one day and I saw traction control fail/stablility control fail/abs fail. I was on the way to the dealer to get an oil change. They checked it out and they said I needed a new ECU that would cost $3000. The service advisor said most people don't replace it and the car continues to run fine and still have traction control/stability control/and abs brakes.

 

ECU??? I haven't heard that one before. ABS control module, maybe, but ECU?

 

I just had the same issue pop up on my 98 over the weekend (stability/traction/ABS). Seems to be fine most times when starting cold in the morning, but it happens during cold starts mid day. At first I thought it might be due to the miserable heat wave here in Charlotte, but this thread has me thinking I'll be checking the sensors as soon as it is cool enough to step outside again.

 

the most common areas of concern on the ABS/traction control issues are

(1) wheel speed sensors (dirty, and/or damaged)
(2) harness damage (wires and/or pins)
(3) ABS module internal short
(4) ABS ring in the hub damaged (rare)

I have done a lot of work on my '99 XK and your videos were a massive aid. Thanks. I want to check out my ABS module solder joint but your link doesn't work. Can you repost it for me? I have just subscribed to your YouTube channel and I didn't find a video for this there.

Abs module.
Ok quick breakdown. Ended up driving in a downpour on a rough road and had traction control stability control fail ABS light on. I did not have any engine light come on when I read the codes there was none besides the code everything is fine. I have cleaned all the wheel sensors and still have the same issue. What's weird is sometimes I start it it pops up and other times no warning light until I drive and sometimes it's fine . Breaking feel normal. So I took the ABS control module out not just a little hole in it to check in there and I work with acrylics so fixing is no issue well when I get into the control module it's like a rubber coating so I had to remove it from over the pins. Well once I remove the rubbery substance the one pin looks like it's cracked in the solder but it's so small it's hard to tell. And when you look at the picture that's not scratch marks on the board that's the rubbery clear stuff. So here's my question do I just need to add new solder to both the pins?

 

Update : Well at 4am I decided to remove some of the old and replace with new. But before that I got out my microscope and most deffently one was cracked all the way around and the other had some very small cracks. So I threw some flex on it and fixed him up. I would like to thank everyone for there detective work I love this group. Now I just need to get a new passenger side mirror. I swerve to miss a dog and put my mirror on somebody's open mailbox and busted my mirror. Thank you group!!!!!

 

Question for anyone out there. I had to remove this rubber substance to fix the module. Can I use rubber cement on the circuit board in the module, to replace the rubber I pulled off??
