Default Traction / Stability Fail

Hi

When i drive over a bump in the road the Traction Control Fail and the Stability Fail lights come on the dashboard.

If i turn the car off and start it up again the light goes out.

Does anyone know how to fix this ?

Thanks for your help guys

Had the exact same problem and it turned out to be a bad sensor at one of the wheels. My indie determined which wheel had the bad sensor, then replaced it and all was well. You may want to try cleaning the contacts on the wheel sensors before replacing any of them.

A broken wire in the connecting cable is often the problem. Don't change an expensive sensor until you're sure. Internal resistance should be 1100- 1400 milliohms.

Could also be the same infamous bad solder joint in the control module. Clean and inspect all four wheel sensors, unlatch clean and rematch the control modual connection. If that does not work my bet is the solder joint inside the control module.

^^ What they said....

Be sure to also inspect the condition of the rubber boots on the speed sensor wiring harnesses where they attach to the sensors themselves. These boots tend to break down and split over time, allowing water and road grime contamination into the wiring. I fixed my wife's 2006 XK8's split rubber boots back in March 2013 by cleaning them thoroughly and applying a big glob of neutral-cure RTV sealant all over them and letting them cure overnight before reattaching the wiring harnesses to the sensors. Now, whenever I do a tire rotation (every 6,000 miles) I check those boots and apply more neutral-cure RTV sealant as needed (probably every couple years or so). No more DSC or ABS warning lights have appeared on her dash as a result of this approach (which was recommended by another forum member whose name eludes me right now)....

When I go to the Junkyard I get the sensors and Front plug leads from Xj's. I'm pretty much set for the life of my car if I have a sensor/lead issue for about $10.

On cleaning I have done this with good results. 400 grit wet dry sandpaper just to clean the "exciter" rings on the hub. The toothed gear looking part. Upon removal of the sensor from the hub spray some MAF sensor cleaner on micro fibre and wipe off the ends of the sensors. If they have never been cleaned your rag should be black after cleaning. Un do the battery prior to cleaning.
