Default transient error code P1647 - correct replacement part number?

Got this for the first time today after a 90 mile fast run on a hot day. No problems during the drive (in fact was running very sweetly) but engine fault light came on when I started again after 10 minutes. My UltraGauge said P1647 error code. I cleared the code on the UG and restarted a few times and the fault light went off and stayed off for the 90 mile journey home with no more error codes on the UG. Again ran perfectly.

I see from here and elsewhere P1647 is bank 2 upstream oxygen sensor. Also noted NOT to buy a so called universal replacement and that getting the old one out is a bit of a PITA. Even though the fault cleared I'm minded to get a replacement incase it reappears.

Please could someone advise the correct part number I need and clarify the exact location of the Bank 2 sensor?

Thanks
Steve

I can't answer your question, but when I changed the coolant and thermostat on my XKR, I noticed it was then running a little cooler than before. If you haven't done so recently that might be an idea if the hot weather is set to continue in the UK.

Thanks for the reply
pleased to say that all is good on that front - I replaced thermostat and coolant last year - on the run to the coast today my UG showed coolant temp averaging around 93 C - even when stuck in traffic for 20 mins with ambient temp of 22 C it was reading coolant temp of 94 C.

Just started her up again and error code has returned so looks like I need new sensor - may as well do both at same time.

Default Sorted

Just answered my own question- Doh!
Error code was still showing so ordered a pair of sensor from BritCarPart by VIN number (don’t know why I didn’t figure that out before posting )

My Indy mechanic will fit them next week whil doing annual service

1. it's not running perfectly - thus the code!!
2. as your laws require, it's a 2-trip code so by clearing it ... well, the 2-trip explains it...

Are the laws different in West Yorkshire to Yorkshire? Unless by West Yorkshire he actually means Lancashire?

Well yes, a truism I suppose!!

What I was trying to convey (obviously poorly) is that there was no subjective sign of a problem. Engine was running smooth with no lumpiness at idle - didn't check the fuel consumption figures.

Sorry - I did mean "our".

It's worth checking the circuit (but it's nearly always the sensor that's burnt out due to running at 600-900C for a long time).

It'll probably be fine after a new sensor so long as it's the right kind (and the right one is swapped).

No need to swap them as a pair but apart from the cost it can't really hurt. Keep the good one as a spare, even though it's well used.

Good advice.
I bought a brand new pair from BritishParts (not cheap) having supplied the VIN so I’m hoping they are the right ones - seem to be loads of variants. Arriving this afternoon. Getting them fitted on Monday.

it also prompted me to replace the O2 sensor in my 1995 Eunos - it’s struggled (but succeeded) passing the last couple of emissions tests at MOT currently soaking the old one in WD40 for 48 hours - I think I can swap this one myself as access is easier once the front wheel is off. These are half the price of the Jag ones and there’s only one thankfully.

Correct part number is C2S51801 which supersedes LNE1684BB £226 the pair !

Failed miserably to get the old O2 sensor out of the Eunos today even with the correct “slotted socket” and 48 hours of WD40 - it’s now at my Indy mechanic - glad I decided not to try and replace the Jag ones

Default Code p1646+47

Did this job only last week, had a p1646 code so replaced both upstream sensors (not cheap ) and a pain to replace ,now I get code p1646 and p1647,car runs like a dream so go figure? I also replaced my thermostat and housing a month ago,so at the moment I am just trying to figure out my next step towards trying to clear these codes, may I also add that the car went in for a full mot since the replacement and pass the emissions no problem.

I feel your pain.
You are a braver man than me. After my lamentable failure to shift the Eunos sensor I know I'd screw it up on the Jag if I tried so respect to you for succeeding in replacing them.
I just hope that my code clears after the 2 new sensors are fitted on Monday. They are the pukka Jag ones so should be OK but I've found that Jag life often isn't so simple ........

The original owner of your car paid £75,000 for it. 17 years later £200 in parts plus labour to keep it going is a bargain in comparison.
